Case Study: An Urban Secondary School

The Situation

A Kampala based secondary school was enjoying very healthy growth across a number of parameter. With the number of students growing, improving grades for both O- and A levels. The school owners improved the quality of the staff and the school‟’s brand continued to grow while increasing the schools capacity. It took a while but finally, the school had even exceeded it student capacity of 1,200 students. Based on this, the school directors made a decision to start another school in the neighbourhood to tap the looming business opportunities that are abundant. The client contracted BLEGSCOPE to develop a bankable Business proposal to submit to his bankers.

BLEGSCOPE Intervention

BLEGSCOPE developed a bankable business proposal that was submitted to the client’s bankers. The proposal was focused on justifying the viability of the new campus before the financiers. Our role included a detailed study of the secondary school market with an emphasis on both the supply and demand. The roles of other stakeholders and the critical success factors together with a detailed risk analysis were done.

The Impact

Our client was able to access financing for the new campus and the new campus is currently operational with over 600 students. The two schools maintain a very close working relationship to enable the new campus leverage on the old campus‟ strong brand for an adequate student enrolment level.
